hi all. its been very frustrating. i have my boat in the shop over 3 months now . it was going to be a winter project. but its turning into a b/s project. i choose the wrong dealer. i have a new rebuilt 5.7 going in the boat in about 2 weeks. everything keeps dragging along. but my question is they put a gimble bearing in and fixed steering. my drive has not been checked yet. the boats been sitting 10 years 89 5,7 alpha 1 drive. what would you replace as far as maintaince to the gimble area without the drive on. i dont know if i want the guy replacing any think else on the boat. i am so pissed that its taking so long. i live in the city and have no place but the outside marina to work on the boat. 99% of you guy would have went nut's by now
i gave the shop an engine all the bolt on's because of rust . manifords intake .exhaust. oil pan. carb. dist. they got alt. starter . f/p and lots of other stuff with parts and labor..i gave them most of the parts my bill is over 3k and the motor is sitting on a stand. yes a 5.7. if i could turn back time i would have brought a complete 5,7 for 5-6k and had it dropped in. i am approching 4 months now in a 2 weeks. i need bellows advice to make boat correct. lets just say everything is old in that area. i have a shop manual. if it was a perfect world and my boat was done i would ask how much more to fix this and check my drive .but i am pissed.
the owner is a nice guy. but 3 months is 3 months +alot of $$$ for making slow progress. if he would have said 5k and fixed it within 2 months i would have felt better

If it were Me,......

I'd replace All the Rubber Parts,+ the Lower Shift Cable.........

Nope,...... NAPA's website $uck$...... I can't find Anything there, even when I Know they have it.......

Go to Your Store.+ Ask for the Marine Catalog, # MSP-7..........

If they've got an Extra 1,...... They'll probably Give it to you......

That's how I get Mine........ If Not, it lists for $6.95.....

Napa does not have a online parts look up for the marine parts. You will have to go to Napa with your engine and drive info so they can look it up in the marine parts book.Napa numbers are the same as the Sierra numbers. So if you post your engine-drive info we could probably tell you the part numbers..

Re: bellow's advice on replace parts

The Shift Cable Kit, 18-2600 includes the Cable, Gaskets,+ bellows.........$115.14 List.....

The Transom Seal Kit, 18-8205 includes the Bellows, Exhaust Tube, Clamps, Gimbel Bearing,+ Gaskets,.....
I don't see the Cement in there,.......

Or of course,... You can buy it piece by piece,..... You'll have to figure out if it's Cheaper for the redundant, or unneeded Parts, in the Kits, or buying Each 1 separate....

Just ask for the Catalog,..... It's got Pretty Good Pictures,.......
'ell,.... Even I can find the right parts in it............:)

Re: bellow's advice on replace parts

Nope,.... There's 3 Cables......

It's the 1 between the engine,+ the Drive is the 1 you're concerned with......

Re: bellow's advice on replace parts

There is 3 cables total,2 from the control, one of them goes directly to the throttle on the engine. One goes from the contol to a mount on the engine that in turn works the third cable that shifts the outdrive.
