I recently bought a 1985 Sea Ray SRV300 30' Sundancer with two 5.7L mercruisers and Alpha I outdrives. My question is in regards to the exhaust bellows. The replacement kit came with the "ribbed" bellows. The ribbed type bellows are currently installed on the boat however they are torn. Am I supposed to use the ribbed bellows or the exhaust tubes? I'm getting the boat ready for the water and I don't want damage the ujoint bellows by using the wrong exhaust bellows.
Thank you

Re: Bellows Kit

The tube was used with some newer Alpha I Gen II, but you don't have one of those, you have a standard Alpha I. Are you sure you have the right kit?????
With the Gen II's, you could use either. The tube won't damage anything on yours, but it will make it a bit noisier.

Re: Bellows Kit

Another Thought,..........

If you're going to teardown the gimbel housing to replace the Exhaust Bellows, or Tube,........

I'd replace ALL the Rubber Parts,+ the lower Shiftcable,.......

'Cause if 1 bellows is Rotten,........ The rest aren't far behind..........

I Think that the Exhaust Bellows, or Tube are interchangeable...........

Re: Bellows Kit

Thanks Don S. I have the right kit. I just read somewhere that some V8s have a problem with the exhaust bellows expanding and causing the Ujoint bellows to chafe on the ujoints. The kit came with the ribbed bellows. I just wanted to know if my kit was outdated.
Thanks Bondo, I do need to replace all rubber parts. They are dried out looking and cracked. No water in ujoint bellows, but no way will it last another season. The shift cable was replaced two years ago, according to the last owner. It does shift nice and smooth. I wonder why the previous owner didn't get the rubber replaced while he was doing the cable job.
What about that locquick primer "T" for the hinge pins. I'm having a hard time finding that and was wondering if I can just use the Locktite 27131 without the primer.
Thank you
