Remove the exaust bellows and work from the bottom up,you won't have to remove the hinge pins or pivot housing!!

Re: Bellows Replacement

..When I tried to remove the first hinge pin bolt, it felt like the head of the bolt was beginning to strip. It was actually the hinge pin tool twisting into a curly cue. ...

I recently got my bell housing pivots out with a regular good quality 1/2" hex key with a piece of tube over it for leverage.

The pivots are 12-point and the key is six but it's no different form using a 12-point socket on a 6-point bolt head. I'm sure this is the first time the pivots have been removed since 1986 when the drive was built.

Re: Bellows Replacement

Thanks, I sent my defective Sierra hinge pin tool back in return for the Mercury tool. Being impatient while waiting for the replacement, I removed my hinge pins using a 1/2" hex key. With an 18" cheater bar, they came out with ease.
I'll wait for the hinge pin tool before I reassemble. Easier to torque appropriately 102lb-ft.
