Out of the motor how can I test this solonoid? Having a time with the ignition. Can jump the starter and it cranks real well and starts right up. Need to test the solonoid, then the wires to the solonoid ( which ones go where), then I guess the key switch.Thanks.

Have a ohm meter connected between the two large solenoid terminals set to high ohms.

Small jumper wire from positive of battery to one of the small terminals of the solenoid.

Small jumper from negative of battery to the remaining small solenoid terminal.

That should make the solenoid pull in which should make the ohm meter register.

Jumping the solenoid as you've done proves that you have proper voltage applied to it. Now, when the key is turned to START, you should have 12 volts applied to one of the small 3/8" nut solenoid terminals. The remaining 3/8" solenoid terminal should be grounded.

If no voltage is present at the 3/8" nut solenoid terminal when the key is turned to the START position, the safety switch inside the control box is most likely out of adjustment. You could try jiggling the main throttle/shift handle.

Joe, that's what I needed. Thank you. Starts right up at the turn of the key. Old motor project near completion. A little cleanup, coat the connections, controls a prop and maybe even some paint and there she will sit til I figure out what to do with her.
