Just got my first boat and still need to learn a lot. one of my big conserns is being out on the water and having the battery go dead and not have power to start the boat.

I have tried the search and could not find what i was looking for.. maybe a bad searcher.

Is it better to buy a jump box or just have an extra battery?

Running radio and pump for a raft, laptop (have to work sometimes while on t he boat)

should i just have an extra battery and find a connection to run my devises from and if the main goes dead switch them over? or is there a way to just run two at the same time?

what is the best thing to do for pumps for tubes and power for a radio or laptop?

Thanks for the help

perko and other companies make battery switches, for multiple battery set ups. you need a starting battery for the motor, and deep cycle for the accessories. never disconnect the battery from a running motor.

Dual batteries...period.
I have an 18' with dual batteries and the 'Perko' switch and it rocks (ref. TashasDaddy there)...no worries on the restart business.
Plus the battery condition is good and ready to go on both.
Make sure that whenever the boat is not in use the switch is off....do not trust the off switches of the various accessories and systems. Many of them will draw power when not in use and they will pull your system down.
Install this...and measure how you feel knowing you have full power waiting when its time to go home......priceless dude.
Go for it and good luck!!! Happy boating

If space is at all available I agree with the dual batteries. I also have an 18' running dual batteries and a combiner.
