Best Battery?

What size/kind battery should I get to use as just a starter for a 40 HP Force outboard? I am using a separate deep cell for the accessories.

Concentrate on getting marine batteries for both applications. Unless you have a very hard-to-start motor or run alot in sub-freezing weather, the size is not very relavent.

The marine batteries give you the robustness needed to survive all that shaking and pounding that tends to break plates loose.

A marine starting battery in size 24 or 27.
With a minimum of 450 cca (cold cranking amps)
or 550 mca (marine cranking amps)

Thanks ! A dual purpose marine battery would work well then, or go for just the starter ?

If it is just being used for starting and navigation lights, get a marine starting battery.

The dual purpose is a compromise, why would you do that?
