I used a Coleman roadtrip grill on my pontoon, installed it on the front platform outside of the playpen

Bruce, we use a small hibachi grill from "Blue Rhino" set on an aluminum table that fits on the railing. Those $150 - $200.00 SS ones are nice, but small and don't usually have a top rack for warming or slow cooking. Also, the hibachi comes w/ legs that allows you to keep serving trays, utensils, & condiments underneath while grilling. Costs about $25.00 - $35.00. Good luck !!!

Re: Best BBQ for a Pontoon

Bruce, I use a Magma brand that is identical to the Kuuma in the second link. I bought a mounting kit to go with it that allows me to easily remove the grill while leaving the mounts attached to the railing. Two brackets bolt around the railing and two plates bolt to the bottom of the grill. The plates have little stems that drop into matching holes on the brackets and there are little holes in the bottoms of the stems that accept cotter pins. It's a very simple and secure setup. I've grilled many things while under way. Nothing like cruising around listening to tunes and smelling something cooking on the grill. Kinda makes me feel guilty because it's so enjoyable. The grill, a bottle or two of propane and a Rubbermaid tote with the implements all stow under the small seat opposite the helm. If you're more fastidious than I am I would recommend putting an old towel or something on the carpet under the grill when you're cooking. Even when one is careful it's easy to have the occasional drip.

That's exactly why we take our Coleman Roadtrip grill and set it up on the beach -- no grilling on the boat. And no eating of messy foods on the boat. And absolutely no smoking on the boat. We can beach and enjoy all of those while standing around in the water next to the boat. :joyous:

Yes, I have seen those mounts. These what you have?
T10-540 "Dual" Side, Bulkhead or Square/ Flat Rail Mount

No matter what grill I buy, I may use those exact mounts and modify them to fit the grill I get.

Which model Magma do you have? There are many of the rectangular ones.

I originally tried to buy one of those. At the time they were only configured for post mount. Looks like maybe they've added other options. In any case it turned out the vendor was out of stock. Springfield had no inventory and didn't know when they'd be able to replenish, so I bought the Magma and mounts for what the Springfield would have cost. Having personally seen the Springfield version I believe the Magma products to be much better for the same price, but that's just my nonexpert opinion. Bruce, those are the mounts I have and the model grill I use is the Trailmate. I did notice there's now mounting hardware available that's identical but holds the grill cantilevered inside or outside the railing. That would greatly mitigate the mess potential. I might order a set myself, but not until (if) we upgrade the boat. There are many who repurpose nonmarine grills or refuse to cook off the hook, and I can certainly understand that, but my family enjoys the cooking while cruising thing so much I can't imagine not being able to. To each his own.

i am kinda leaning toward the Kuuma Stow & Go 160 Grill at this point. Since I weld, thinking about a reversible mount that will keep the grill hanging over the side when I am in the water and turn around and still hang over the side for grilling at the dock but allow standing on the dock.

I will post pictures once I decide what I do.

I love the round Magma grill.

with the square rail mount, hangs over the side rail so never a mess or a drip inside the boat.
Also have a 3 legged stand that attaches so it easily goes tail-gating in the truck.

Did you look at the second link I posted? That's exactly what that mount does.
