Boston Whaler Montauk. 1973 to 2000.

Might be hard to find one under 5 grand, but it will never depreciate if kept well and it will never sink.

The brand is irrelevant if the boat was not taken care of. Even Boston Whalers can succumb to the evils of poor treatment. You will want to be very careful and do a lot of inspecting to make sure you are not buying someones rotton log. Check the registration, if it has not been registered in ten years, either something went bad, or they just stopped using it. If it has been in a garage the whole time, it is a much better boat than if it has been sitting outside uncovered its whole life. There are a gazillion boats out there in your price range, but there are also a gazillion rotted hulks that people are trying to pass off as good boats. Its hard work, but you'll find a good one.

Whatever floats your boat! :D

Just get 1 you like in your price range. Brand is kinda irrelivant. The care of the boat is the kicker.
