Re: best boat motor

I just got my new Florida Sportsman magazine for October and happened to notice the majority of motors shown on the boats being advertised were all Yamaha's.
I'm sure they will rig most any motor, but Yamahas were prevalent.

It appears that Yamaha has a very strong marketing program with the boat manufacturers. I've also noticed that many are pre-rigged with Yamaha. From what I've seen/heard, tho, they are good motors.

My next door neighbor works on the water for the county police marine bureau. They got a good deal from Merc in return for keeping detailed records and reports on the dual Verados they're using on a couple of RIBs. Merc swaps 'em out when they break, which they do pretty regularly. He says they go like stink but he wouldn't own one.

His "connections" in the local Coast Guard contingent swear by the Hondas they're using. Says they run 2000-3000 hours without major failures and are very reliable.

I'm an old OMC fan and would love to say "E-Tec", but they're pretty new. I don't think I'd be comfortable dropping so much coin on one yet. If I was in the market for a new motor right now (dream on!) I'd be looking hard at Yamaha and Honda.
