Here is a photo or two of the Silver River:

Entering it:

Look closely in the very center of the photo:

The river flows very fast, so if you get out to swim, tying off to the boat is a good idea. This is my brother-in-law acting like we are dragging him, but we are tied to a tree, I assure you.

This is a cool place. If I am correct the first pic is where the silver river from Silver Springs meets the Oklawaha River in the Ocala forrest in Florida. This is where they filmed alot of the early Tarzan movies. Infact the wild monkey's still hang around in the trees and will try to steal food out of your boat. It use to be one of our favorite day runs up the river from the Harris chain of lakes. Thanks for sharing!

Dave R Lake Powell is on my bucket list!!! Until then I'll can hang with central Florida's lakes and rivers such as shown in the pics. Another good place is Silver Glen off of Lake George.

Maybe because it brings back memories of me and my father, but I loved fishing the Chechessee River in Beaufort, SC. We used to put in at Lemon Island and head to where the Chechessee met the Broad River. We would anchor up and spend hours bottom fishing on this quiet, scenic river.

i live in south mississippi where the fishing is good but the actual boating is humdrum. when i was a teenager, i made a couple trips with the family to table rock lake up in south missouri. it was terrific. i'd like to take a boat of my own back up there someday. i noticed that 642mx mentioned table rock. i'd love to be close enough to go on a semi-frequent basis.

if your boat is big enough to handle some moderate tide action, making the trip from the mississippi coast out to the barrier islands is pretty cool. the water really gets florida-ish on the south side of the islands.

Well, my BIL acts like a Chimp sometimes, but yes, in the jungle picture, that is a Rheasus (spelling?) monkey. They are everywhere!

Ya gotta be careful on the Silver River cuz the monkeys will try to snatch a snack from you because so many folks have fed them over the years. These are the descendants from the Tarzan movies that were filmed here and they can smell a free lunch a mile away!!!

Sorry, that's an Urban Legend. Or in this case is it a Rural Legend?

Here's the real story:

"There is also a colony of non-native rhesus monkeys which were introduced to the park in early 1938 by a tour boat operator, known locally as "Colonel Tooey," to enhance his "Jungle Cruise" ride. A local legend that they are the descendants of monkeys used to enhance the scenery for the Tarzan movies that were shot in the area in the 1930s is not true."

Regardless of how they got there... they want your lunch!!! Just freaky seeing them scurrying through the trees and sitting there waiting for a hand out sport.

Re: Best boating spot in your memory

Well, this might take a while to figure out....

Last year, our trip from San Jose, CR to Tortuguero, CR. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tortuguero_National_Park Awesome channels up to Nicaraguan border. 2nd trip w/ our daughter near there.

Osa Peninsula, CR. Golfo Duce dolphin pods the year before ....and some fishing...Bosque del Cabo- little ones first trip to CR

Baracuda fishing near Paradise Island, Bahamas...... and we swam with them too! Naked girl cruises....- hes a good guy.

Cruising off Bahia Prinipe, just enjoying the sun and 100 feet under the surf...

No wonder our little one is a water girl- story here

One late fall here in WI,while I was finally got the cottage ready for winter, my old girlfriend were taking the Reveler 155 out for her last spin of the season. Had to break the ice away from the prop and out we went. Bouys were out, not a soul to be seen , it was well into November and we were usually one of the last to take the boats out....

About 200 yds out of the boathouse, the motor was partially warmed up and I gave her a bit of throttle to take our last round in the chain of lakes. Backed off a bit and came around to see that old cottage yet again, knew it was coming to an end someday in the near future and just had to soak in the view.

It was right then that I knew that things so good just cant come to an end without some effort and love and asked her - So what do you think about getting married?- Yes, was her answer. I said nothing but a great smile was on my face and in my being. Shut the motor to an idle and just cruised by the swimming hole , the piers and all the memories made...

Got around the lakes , enjoying the chilled breeze and not a boat in sight, the sun pulling the curtain down on the evening. Pulled the boat in and pulled the plug- to the motor, that is.....boathouse had the bluegill and perch swimming about in the afternoon sun reflecting off the sandy bottom into the shade of the walkways. We lingered for quite a while watching the beauty of it all.

She made me ask her 3 times in the days after that.

Guess where my favorite spot is?
