Best Carb for 1985 merc 260

I was getting ready to replace my carb on my merc 260/350, and was wondering if I should stick to the Q-Jet or go with another.

I always like the Q-jet on our 1984 Renken w/260.

Junk the Q (ebay it for $50) and get an Edelbrock Marine 600cfm with the spreadbore adapter. Got mine from Summit (Jegs has them too).Might have to rework your gas line in.....better response, and better mileage. Just make sure its a marine carb what ever ya do.

Thanks robby6950 and Ralph, I was told that Q-jet was Q-junk, but I have to say that mine has been ok.

By the way, I did find the Holly for something like $340 by hunting for it a bit but this Carbsonly place was recommended as being the best experts in the business to recommend replacements and I was fighting that bogging thing. I put 2 different Qjets on with the same (poor) results and I was going to blame the Qjet (Raunchester Quadrajunk as some call it) but that wasnt my biggest issue. Easy to blame the Carb when you hear so many people who hate it (the Raunchester that is). I am still considering changing though as I think OMC over carbed the 305 and 350 and even the 4.3 with the 750 Qjet. I like the idea of picking a bit of low end for pulling.
