Best Cold Starting Motor?

I'm in the market for a new motor - between 50 and 60HP. However, I am a duck hunter and cold starting is critical. I've been thinking about a 4 stroke, but am worried that the oil viscosity in cold weather may complicate starting.<br /><br />I currently have a 55 HP Suzuki 2 stroke that is terrible cold starting - Any hints ideas or recommendations would be appreciated. I've seen some smaller Johnsons start when it is 6 below as I sat at the ramp and cranked and cranked until my battery went dead....aggrevating.

Rex,<br /><br />Four stroke won't be a problem. The EFI engines are the easiest to start cold. The new Suzuki 4 strokes are EFI as well as Yamaha.

Hello.<br />In both 4-strokes and 2-strokes there are very good cold starters.What should count for you is the engine weight of a 50 or 60 horse on a duck hunter's boat, which because of its very purpose is not very large.Two-strokes still weigh less and you mentioned the name of a very good cold starter in your post...

heh, my ooollldd evinrude 7.5 starts in 2 pulls. its a 1955

on the same note I have a 1960 3 hp evinrude started first pull of this fishing season and first pull 99.9 percent of the time i swear it starts better than most new motors.. This is just my 10 cents..

Johnson and Evinrude are suppose to be the same...Suzuki...unitl now...Bombardier...<br /><br />So why does a Johnson motor out start a "Rude"???

Robtile,<br /><br />As you know some engines are harder to start than others, especialy in cold weather. On cold days you can use a spray starting fluid. It doesn't take much and it can make the difference.
