Best Cold Starting Motor?

I'm in the market for a new motor - between 50 and 60HP. However, I am a duck hunter and cold starting is critical. I've been thinking about a 4 stroke, but am worried that the oil viscosity in cold weather may complicate starting.

I currently have a 55 HP Suzuki 2 stroke that is terrible cold starting - Any hints ideas or recommendations would be appreciated. I've seen some smaller Johnsons start when it is 6 below as I sat at the ramp and cranked and cranked until my battery went dead....aggrevating.

Rex,

Four stroke won't be a problem. The EFI engines are the easiest to start cold. The new Suzuki 4 strokes are EFI as well as Yamaha.

Hello.
In both 4-strokes and 2-strokes there are very good cold starters. What should count for you is the engine weight of a 50 or 60 horse on a duck hunter's boat, which because of its very purpose is not very large.Two-strokes still weigh less and you mentioned the name of a very good cold starter in your post...

Thanks all -

Does anyone know if Johnson makes a 2 stroke EFI motor in the 50 60 hP range>

Oh, and thanks to all you duck hunters with your 1950 motors ringing in to make fun of me....you must be the same guys with the boats that my retriever jumps in with when he hears their boats fire up while I'm still cranking away during duck season :)

Robtile,

As you know some engines are harder to start than others, especialy in cold weather. On cold days you can use a spray starting fluid. It doesn't take much and it can make the difference.
