I also use wal-mart everstart batteries on my pontoon since 2018/19 ? I'd have to check. Actually can't remember when I last replaced them.
I use a battery selector switch and an ACR. When I leave the boat I select off.
I have 2 solar panels mounted on the back. The larger one came with the boat purchase in 2016/17. I added a smaller one maybe 6 years ago. Each one is connected to its own battery.
At the beginning and end of season I perform a battery charge using my smart charger. I pop the caps and check levels.
That's my experience and routine.

I use a Duracell and an everstart. The Everstart was my primary battery bought in 2017, when the merc. 60hp was on the boat.
Bought the new Merc. 115hp in 2021. Manual said it needs a 1000 cca battery. Everstart doesn't have one, so I got the Duracell.
I kept the everstart as my secondary and wired up a dual battery setup.

I believe the solar chargers have really made a difference in longevity.
