Re: Best kitchen appliances

I can only comment on dishwashers cause that's the only thing I've bought recently.

We got a Bosch SS one and you can't even hear it when it's running. Quietest one on the market according to Consumer Reports. It also performs as advertised as far as not needing to "pre-rinse" your dishes.

Very happy with the purchase.

bosch are very good. i saw a sixteen hundred bucker that had multiple spray arms, super pumping capasity....however, if they break, parts are a long way away-time wise,
and expencive. same with vqa and other imported types
lg is too new for the techs and the jurys still out.

dont worry bout energy star. the difference in operating costs are pennies a month.

you want a silent, food eating, machine that shoots water like a hurricane.

our model numbers are all different up here in can but one of my techs is the local whirlpool factory tech.. ill see if i can get him to give me a few model nums to look at.

One thing about the Bosch brand is they also make washers for Kenmore which is Sears. They are identical as far as I know except for the button configuration. The Kenmore ones were also available in different colors too and Bosch was only in SS, but that may have changed. I liked the exterior look of the Bosch better, but inside they are identical.

Re: Best kitchen appliances

We remodeled our kitchen this past year and I went with GE as reccommended by my cousin who builds houses. they were the best bang for the buck. I can tell you ge packs their stoves really good because mine came out of the truck doing 60 on I44 and besides a couple of dents it works great.

Oops, the only thing I would disagree with is that SS is a fad, I will never go back to white, I don't care what others think or do I will keep my SS!

The place I have the dish washer was replaced just before I bought. When it gives problems its outa here cause its white, does not do a good job, makes to much noise etc. Its a Frigidaire, probably the lowest cost unit that could be found,,,

if I was going to do a color it would be black, but that is a fad!:D

the only difference between white, and stainless appliances is the cover!
unless its a sub zero. you can peel the stainless right off and find a black appliance. the diff between black and white is the plasticized cover of the cheep tin they use for a body case.

just like green, brown, red, blue, pink, yellow, (harvest gold) almond, and black. they look good as long as the color scheme of the kitchen is in current style.

ss is gonna eventually go out cause you gotta clean the finger prints off it twice a week. once a day if you got munchkins!
ittl only be a matter of time before "mom" says enough of that!!!

then well go back to white for a few more years.
ive heard they have been test marketing the green fridges allready in certain areas:eek:

its all just a matter of what "wifey" likes....thoes are her "tools"

can u imagine goin back to alvacdo green????? yikes!:)

cheers

Re: Best kitchen appliances

I want some color that doesn't show dirt and grease so I don't have to clean it very often.

By the way my 1976 refrigerator is what they used to call "Harvest Gold". which is basically yellow. Can I get a new yellow fridge?

Does anyone remember the slime green era of appliances? lol

Ooops, you were typing this at the same time I was.

Some appliances like dishwashers come with different color panels built in behind the front one. All you have to do to change the color is remove a few screws and pick a different panel.

Aye but what ye forget is I am not married! I get to make my own decisions in life now :D I have a white fridge and dishwasher now (they were here and new when I moved in) and the fridge before that was tan (the X picked it). When they start to annoy me or start to fail they will get replaced with what I want, not the low end crap that was put in here.:(

CC, Something that don't show being dirty,,,, don't look at black! It gets dirty (looking because of air born dust) with nobody near it!

Now I haven't been appliance shopping in sometime now, but the last time I went white was an extra charge  almost as much as SS.

I'm still stuck on Almond, or Vanilla, or Cream, it's so much better then glaring, blaring, White IMO, and hardly any fingerprints showing like SS, or Black. I remember the Avacado, say what you want, but it went great with any kind of wood color. I had Coppertone in the beginning, ugh! that was dark!

Re: Best kitchen appliances

I did a total remodel about a year ago that included a new kitchen from top to bottom. I went with the GE Profile line in SS (oops!, now don't tell me it was huge mistake) and we are very pleased with them. I always disliked noisy appliances and these are so quiet you don't even know they're on, inlcuding the dishwasher. We've never had a problem with with finger prints or smudges on the surface either. I had heard this could be a problem before we bought them, so I went to the store and tested each brand to see what it looked like. Depending on the finish (not all are the same), prints could be seen, so we avoided those brands or models.

As for price, these are at the upper end of what Sears carries, but there was a sale, plus a rebate and then an additional discount for putting it on your Sears card. I didn't want to put it on the card, but I did and then just paid it off right away. We saved a few thousand on the complete set (double oven, D/W, M/W, fridge, cook top) so it came to about what a midgrade package would run.

Re: Best kitchen appliances

Just did a nice kitchen 1 year ago

I have allways hated the space between the counter and oven SO i went with a slide in oven that is sealed into the counter , this stoped all the hard to clean small spills and food that fall in between

I did not like ANY over the range MICROWAVE/HOOD and went with a cabinet mount microwave

Kitchen Aid makes a unit that is a good size and will fit a standard depth cabinet and it has a nice trim kit

The ONE nice thing about black is i used 4 brands and they all MATCH in black:D

I will snap a few pictures tonight

Re: Best kitchen appliances

It seems that the reader reviews about dishwashers complain mostly about " bad rinsing and water spots" could this be a product of the water supply or is it really about the dishwasher?

Anyone with a water softener will have beautiful clean and spot-free dishes every load.
