Best locater transducer location?

Well I don't have many options and neither will be ideal. I wanted to get some opinions from here before I permanently mounted my fish locater transducer to the back of my boat.

Labeled on the pic of the back of my boat below is Point A is where I am thinking about mounting it and is temporally there now. Point B is the only other option I think I have?

Note the trim tab which will cause turbulence

So whats your opinion?

Thanks for your help

LoL I probably have my tranducer mounted on my doral in about the same spot the trim tab is in lol. I guess it is better to be closer to the bottom of the hull, I don't think the trim tab should cause any interference. I think A would be your better choice personally.

You've already got holes at "A" so if it's working I'd just leave it.

Looks like he is using superbond tape to locate it....I don't think there are holes there yet.

My transducer is mounted in the bilge, using 5200. The previous owner scraped and sanded the glass for a good bond and when I upgraded I used the same spot. I get a good reading at speed and no turbulence unless in reverse.

Don't know if its working, haven't had it out on the water to try it yet. Want to seal everything up before I take it out thus the question I posted in this thread.

Thanks

Mount it on the other side of the lower unit as far away from the prop as you can. Less turbulance from the prop & best if your boat tips to that side when underway.

A is too close to the prop. Put it at B.

That looks to be an Eagle/Lowrance transducer. I have one on my 20' bowrider (an old FishID), on the port side like yours, maybe 4" more away from prop but closer to the tab than yours. I've had no issues, and can still track bottom at over 55mph. I say leave it in the "A" position unless you are having a problem.

Re: Best locater transducer location?

OK - so as triumphrick pointed out, it's on tape :-|

In that case if you have a way of mounting it for through-the-hull reading, I would suggest that is best. I have what looks to be the same transducer as imported_John_S says and he hasn't had problems with his at 55, but I never could get mine to work at 55. But then my boat doesn't go faster than about 32mph ;)

Anyway, since you don't have screw holes yet, if you can't shoot through the hull I would go with "B" or a little more. If I were to guess, the one on my boat is at about "B" and-a-half.

The speed sensor is at that location on the other side of the lower unit so can't put it on that side.

Thanks for the replies everyone
