Hi all, this summer I got my first power boat, a 1994 four winns with a VP 5.0FL, cobra I/O. The boat has been very well maintained, and I want to keep it that way. I am wondering if the SELOC manuals are OK for winterizing, seasonal maintenance, lower unit RR, bellows, gimbal and U-joint, water pump, steering, etc. I would be will to pop for a factory manual ($130), but it doesn't say anything about what is covered in the manual, and they sell 3 different ones for the engine, fuel, and elec.

also, 1994 is the first year of the OMC-volvo joint venture, and I'm wondering if I can get by with an OMC factory manual, which is more availible.

My mechanical ability and shop are good, and my concern is doing it right, not cheap. Advice appreciated!

thanks

Eric

Ayuh,.... Seloc is pretty General in it's coverage...
Factory manuals are Very Specfic, written for a Tech to read...

Being a Mechanic, I use Selocs for kneepads when workin' in gravel driveways...
They're better than Nothin',... But not much...

agreed bond-o, seloc is general and good for placing coffee mugs on and scrap paper

if you aren't too concerned about spending dough on factory manuals - do it, they are very good manuals and have detailed maintenece info and specs (its probably $130 for the whole set of manuals)

you will need the VOLVO manual, the OMC manuals only cover the clutch-dog style drives - you do not have that drive system

volvo made that entire engine/drive package - OMC allowed volvo to use the name for a few years as part of the buyout agreement - OMC had nothing to do with the engineering/assembly

Check out this link.

Read the entire thread. I've got a 95 Joint venture 5.0FL Ford and SX drive.

That should take care of what you need.

Good luck.

Thanks for all your help guys, I am going to look for a set of paper manuals, as I am having trouble with detail on the pictures in the scanned versions. VP lists a part #7796741 for a set of manuals for this engine, but don't list a price for the set- they apparently sell them individually for $100- sent them an email to clarify. Thanks again

I had to the same problem and ordered a manual for the drive. The pictures are EXACTLY the same in the paper document as the digital. It didn't help at all.

are you serious? I can barely tell what part of the engine they are working on in the electronic versions. Anyone else have this problem? Did you maybe get a photo copied one rather than an original? Found a complete set for $80, but if the pics aren't any better, I should save my money.

thanks

Send me your email and I can send you a PDF manula for the drive. Its really good.

Please use the PM function for personal deals and email addresses. They are not allowed on the forums.
Next, make sure your manual is for an MD model. There were some differences during the new years of that drive.

I ordered it from Iboats. It is original. The info is great, and the pics suck.

OK Don, thanks. One last question, the serial number of my engine ends with "MDA" does this mean its an MD engine model? the VP website is not very helpful, as they list several different codes for this engine. Also, have you seen the poor picture quality Sparkinator is refering to?

thanks
