try the search feature on iboats.
there's a what kinda oil do you use thread about once a week. many opinions too. pretty much boils down to what ever trips yer trigger....

myself i use mercrusier 25w40. it's what mercruiser recommends to use and since i assume the oem knows what's best for their engine. it's what i do. takes the thinking about what should i use out of the equation.... :D

I think the opinion of most will be... "AH-H-H! NOT ANOTHER OIL THREAD!"

No offense meant towards you, but if you do a search, you will see this question gets asked about every week and has been answered in every way imaginable.

If you are expecting a simple, awe inspiring answer to your question, forget it, there isn't one. Pick an oil and go for it.
No matter what oil it is, someone, somewhere, sometime, has used it and would recommend it to everyone because it worked for them.
Below, I have listed some of the previous oil threads, It will save everyone a lot of typing as the answers never change.

I tried to search but I'm using my iPhone and it didn't work. Well I'm an amsoil oil fan and I'd like to use that in my boat. Which weight should I use?

Straight 30 or 40 wt depending upon your weather conditions.

It's really hot down here in Texas so I'm guessing 30W. Amsoil carries 10-W30 so I guess that will work

Whatever floats your boat, so to speak.

If you do take the time to read what the manufacturer recommends, like in the link that Ziggy posted, you will see the following:

IMPORTANT: The use of non-detergent oils, multi-viscosity oils (other than Quicksilver 25W-40 or a good quality 20W-40 or 20W-50), synthetic oils, low quality oils or oils that contain solid additives are specifically NOT recommended.

The table below is a guide to crankcase oil selection. The oil filter should always be changed with the engine oil.
Air Temperature Oil Type
All Temperatures Mercury Precision 4-Cycle 25W-40 Marine Engine Oil
Below 32? F (0? C) SAE 20W
32-50? F (0-10? C) SAE 30W
Above 50? F (10? C) SAE 40W
