As goofy as this sounds , the brush You use is as important as the paint if you want quick and good results. I always use purdy brushes with chinese bristle ($20+ and worth it for a 3-1/2" to 4" brush). Prep is about 2/3's of the job if ya wanna do it right (SSMAYFLOAT is right on) and save time in the long run. I almost always use Benjamin Moore. All JMO though.

Re: Best Paint Brand

When my kids were young, I learned that any painting project always started with a coat of "Kilz II" sealer. That stuff will seal out 99.9% of stains that will bleed through the new paint.

The best paint I like is the Serwin Williams. However, once painting the int. the white semi gloss I used on the trim yellowed after a couple of years. Tried Colonial paint on int. trim, 10 years and still no yellow. I still prefer S/W for the ext.

Chief 101
Had to reply to your comment on painters.
Love to have you work for me for one day and see
how easy and lazy my lot are. When your finger tips are bleeding from sanding, legs arms and neck
are stiff from bending, your knees are bleeding
from drawing pins left in carpets, splinters under nails and thur fingers. Also forgot about cleening up afterpigs and doing all the high work and sh***y jobs that the client wont do.Grin and do it all again the next day for weeks at a time.
Myself and my workers are tradesmen ,never ever had a complaint with our quality of work.
Seems to me you got burnt at some stage ,as people do when they go for the cheap price.
To do the job well you need to have good workers, good brushes ,top shelf line paints
and this costs money lots of it.
Yeah one big thing i love my job
:D

my mother in law bought some bargin stuff at sherwin williams (stuff they mixed for someone and didnt sell or was returned or something) well she bought oil based and believe me that was hard to work with. It cost more for the mineral spirts to clean my brushes then it did for the paint. BUT One coat and it looked awesome. I painted one room blue and man it didnt even need a touchup.

Without argument, Behr is the highest quality paint you can buy but its not as well liked by pro's as Kelly-Moore because:
1. Home Depot is most of the funding behind Behr and you have to go deal with Home Depot to get it.
2. It's thick and doesn't spread as smoothly as Kelly-Moore. When your painting all day, the last thing you want is a paint that is hard to spread.

Kelly-Moore is a good well rounded paint that is priced well and produces good long lasting results. It's nice to work with, spreads easily and cleans up nicely. If you need to tape you usually don't have to burnish the tape to get a straight line. With Behr and Glidden you do.

Glidden Paint is still trying to get past the Contractor Grade image they created for themselves. It's improving but still designed for the blow-n-go guys doing slam bang, tract home, new construction and budget remodels. It's hard to beat their prices on new-drywall primer though.

Well, we used Behr white, in most of the house. We used a lemon yellow color, on an accent wall, as well. (It too was Behr).

We used some of Wally Worlds paint, on some accent walls in our boys rooms. So far so good on all choices.

JUST A SIDE NOTE: The Kilz idea is a really good one. If you have, or have had pets that might have made a mess on the floor, in the past. PAINT the floor with the Kilz. It will help eliminate any odors, and detour the pets from going to that spot again. PLUS, it helps make the house smell fresher. Tried it, it works. {Learned this from a painter}

Just my $0.02

Sure. Burnishing is the act of rubbing the tape with a dry cloth to create friction which causes heat. The heat melts the glue on the tape and forces it to the edges making it less likely to leave a fuzzy edge. The low viscosity of some paint brands allows it to seep under the edges of tape and burnishing helps to stop that.
