I have 2001 bayliner with a 4.3 inboard I just purchased. Only 200 hours but engine seized in storage. I planned to tear it down to see how bad the cylinders are but I would like to have a chance to finish before the Fourth of July and would like to have new pistons and rings ready to go back together. Seen several threads saying not to use certain pistons on the marine engine so asking for advice of what piston style/brand I should get on the way

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,...... Generally speakin', new pistons are never fitted to a block that hasn't been machined to match, nor pressed onto a rod that hasn't been resized,.....

If the block needs to be bored, 'n new pitons fitted, I suggest a D-dish piston that mirrors the head chamber,....
Shoot for just under 10:1 compression ratio,....
Go with hyperutectic pistons over cast,.... forged are not necessary,....

KISS is always in play with a marine motor. Find a machine shop you trust and work with them to get a simple basic motor configuration. An experienced motor machinist is your greatest asset.

Agree with other coments regarding machining and piston profile .

did you remove the drive and see if the engine is siezed or drive, gimbal bearing, ujoints?

You never buy parts until after you machine the block. Only way to do it, is to buy a new stock bore block and buy new stock bore rotating assembly

Agree with others, take it to your local engine builder
