Three major places to look: Rapido Marine, Michigan Mortorz and eBasic Power. I checked out all three before deciding to have my local shop just go ahead and buy it. That way, there wouldn't be finger pointing if something goes wrong.

Does Rapido sell the 3.0 liter? Their website only shows 6 & 8 cyls.

i would do a better search. i paid 2k for motor and manifold with shipping. i thought it was a great deal. payed the dealer 3500 for some parts and labor. only to find i could have got a complete new gm drop in for $5400. and a 383 stroker just in got 6k. i have not ran my motor yet from rapido. but i called the watt. company to ask a question and they said they wont deal with them again???dont know what happed. but i would try to pay xtra to get in local.

Re: Best place to buy a short block

well, I pulled the intake/exhaust manifold did not see a crack in block or manifold. So I pulled the head. Head looked good no cracks, no signs of water in cyls. Looked in the block did not see any cracks there either. I am sure there is one (but it is hiding ha,ha) Where would it be hiding? Also if I wanted to sell boat as is what would a fair price be for it? Might want to get a new bigger one. Thanks to everyone for the help.

I have been working with a friend of mine on his 3.0L My ?? is what is under the plate on the stbd side of the motor? It runs along the whole side. My guess is the CAM. His motor dumps water in the oil but the cyls are dry as a bone and the head is good. He wants to believe that the head gasket was bad but it looked almost new when we pulled the head. How do you seal-up the block to pressure test it? Think we should pull this plate and inspect further?? Thanks

Just because you dont see a crack does not mean their isnt one. Have the heads and block magnafluxed.

Hate to say it but a 89 model boat with a OMC drive and non running 3.0..It would be one of those deals like buy a trailer and get a free boat.
Maybe 800 to 1000 bucks if you are lucky..
You would be better off getting it running and use it!
