Best place to buy NEW Merc lower unit.....

Might be a dumb question, but I am thinking I am going to replace my lower unit with a brand new one. This site seems cheaper than other places I have checked. Is iboats my best place? Oppinions?

Its a 2001 Merc 250 EFI with a 30" lower.

fyi - the lower scag is broke off, and the horizontal fin is broke pretty good. The seal by the prop shaft is all messed up and suck in water. My local marina is saying the housing is shot.

You can find one on the SEI web site. I am not sure where iBoats buys theirs....

Ok, one sec - looks like SEI makes their own units. I was looking to buy a new "Mercury" lower unit. Any tips there? Thanks again!! Joe

Is yours a counter rotating? A new Mercury one from OBR thru iBoats runs right at $1900 + $50 shipping and you can buy a extra year warranty. Vender 1 is SEI and Vender 2 is OBR.

Hi, no its not counter rotation. I was assuming MERC was the best way to go - like do it right and do it once. Maybe I am wasting my money going with OEM? Is it widely common for SEI lower units to be just as good of quality? Thoughts on that would be wonderful as SEI is half price. But are they half price for a reason?? I do plan on keeping this boat for years! Thanks again.

MY opinion is go with the Merc as I have had customers with problems with the SEI 3.0l unit, SEI always takes care of it but warranty aint worth a darn when your 5 miles out and it takes a chit....
