Actually that article outlines doing it as a layup on the hull, either way, with a waxed resin the wax is meant to come to the surface to seal the resin and help it cure, you cannot lay it up fast enough to get good adhesion before the wax surfaces requiring sanding between layers.

Re: best place to order fiberglass supplies from?

Just finished ordering my product today from US Composites. For a deck/partial stringer/transom repair I ordered:

10 Yards 1708 Biax - $95.00 Shipped
3 Gallons 435 Layup Poly Resin
5 lb tub of Talc (thanks Dan) - $130.00 Shipped

Hopefully that'll be enough to get me thru. I've got to replace one stringer in the cuddy, the transom, and rebuild 2 stringers and a partial motor box that had to be cut to remove the transom.

I'm going to work in stages (transom and rear stringers first, then the cuddy, then a few cross members, finally the floor). If I need more, I guess I'll order more.

fibreglassite.com , I like their unwaxed resin.

iBoats is difficult for me to navigate, often I know they have something but I can't find it. On the other hand their customer service is top notch.

I just bought 2 gals of boatyard poly resin for $40, craigslist again.

I might be incorrect here but I think wax is an additive you have to add yourself when you mix up the resin and hardner. I don't think the wax is in the unmixed resin.

I don't have a problem navigating the iboats store, and their search feature works good for me.

The problem I have with iboats is the shipping time and shipping charges.

I wanted to order Interlux Brightside and pre-kote. I first called iboats and they checked the warehouse in Ohio to be sure the product was in stock. Then told me it would be 7 business days to ship. iboats price is $34.44 a quart for Brightside and $27.99 for a quart of Pre-Kote primer.

Fore and Aft Marine price is $24.99 and $17.99 respectivally. Ordered two quarts of paint and 1 quart primer. Thats $96.87 from iboats vs $67.97 from Fore and Aft and it will be here in 3 days.

iboats said they would match the price, but then I have to get them the web address of the item and wait for iboats to check it out. I don't have time for that. To make matters worse, iboats shipping is $40.18 vs $14.29 from F&A. I want the product ASAP and I want the $54.79 in savings in my pocket. The bottom line is I'm paying about 66% more to shop here, and although the customer service is rated the best, these are not the best of economic times.

I wish iboats would be a little more competitive with their pricing on products and shipping.
