Hello all I'm a 1st time poster. I was wondering if you all could supply me with some good links to website for:
  • boat parts
  • gauges and panels
  • restoration tools and cleaners
  • electronics
  • upholstery

And any other links I would need for restoring a boat to make it my own customized creation.

Many thanks!

Re: Best places to find boat parts for restorations

LOL ---- *SLAPS FACE* Well then i have another question(s) then. If I purchase an older boat say late 90's will I be able to find parts on this site that fits those pieces or will it take some finagling? Things like thru hole fitting drains and console toggle and gauges dash boards? I am trying to personalize everything about this boat that i can. I am talking about everywhere there should be the boat makers logo (Mako) I would like those to be added. Especially on the upholstery on the leaning post and center console forward seat.

My father LOVED tricking out cars...well I don't care to much about customizing cars, but I do love boating! I don't see myself getting another boat at least 7-10 years so i want to make it look as new and custom as i can.

welcome to iboats

items like thru-hull fittings, gauges, etc. are standard sizes. switches, upholstery, etc are a bit more specialized.

you may also want to check out greatlakesskipper.com for NOS items and take-offs in addition to iboats.

Re: Best places to find boat parts for restorations

when i think of custom im thinking more along the lines of making the parts myself. im sure if "ops" on the repair forum can cut a boat in half and extend it 4' then i can proberly make a fiberglass dash or other tricked out part with some advice. the interior can be bought complete, in parts or can be made if you want a odd color. half of the fun of custom is the search for things like graphics and electrical gismos then its getting the skills and know how from the forum on how to apply it and make it work. if you just want to basically restore a boat back to new then thats not a problem either unlike cars boats tend to use the same parts. if you have yet to buy the boat look more towards the 2001 or newer (depending on model) when they stopped using wood in the construction and again thats a good time to ask questions once you have a certain boat in mind

It would help to know your location as there are boat salvage yards and used parts/surplus outlets in some areas of the country that could be of interest to you. Not all items can be found on line, and some are best or more fun to look for personally.

Welcome to iboats.

We have a very extensive restoration section here on iboats. We have professionals who are in the industry, experienced people who have enjoyed restorations as a hobby for many years and total beginners too. Everyone is very helpful and will guide you through the DIY ways to fix things. Tons of tips and tricks and multiple examples of completed projects.

There is no job too small and if it is way too big - people will warn you! ;)

The boat industry is a funny one. Some companies will maintain OEM parts for years and other companies maintain no parts for boats older than the original warranty. As stated above there are parts from our iboats store and tips on where to get a part that might be rare or home made.

Here are the important restoration links:

Completed Projects http://forums.iboats.com/forumdisplay.php?f=407 Does not contain all the boats but a select few.

How to post photos and videos http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=533219 People in the restoration section are picture junkies!!

Once again welcome! So, what's the project??!! :D :D

Also lots of unique, sometimes new-old-stock, items on Ebay.

Re: Best places to find boat parts for restorations

Thanks for all the guidance and direction fellas! Unfortunately my check book wont allow me to purchase anything in the years much past 2000 :( .The boats i am looking at right now are a 97' Hydra-Sport and a 95' Mako. Both boats are in good to excellent condition for a boat 15+ years old. I just know as a perfectionist there will be little things I will want to repair or change out. Eventually I will want a new paint, gel-coat and upholstery done. But that stuff can wait till i get some little things done first.
