Need help determining best prop size/pitch for 1995 Crestliner 1750 Sportfish equipped with the Volvo Penta inline 4 cylinder. Boat is used for fishing and skiing both so I am looking for a good universal prop. Boat is currentyly propped with a 15x17 aluminum that has a couple of nicks and just wanted feed back before repairing current prop or before buying a new one. Thanks

Depending on budget and material (aluminum).....buy new. Around this area, prop repair shop = $50-60 / buying new online = under $100. JMO.

The prop selector picks a 19 pitch for your boat based on it's weight and load for good overall performance.

Given that the WOT rpm operating range for that motor is 4200-4600 rpm, the 19 would most likely make a good all around cruising prop, but might not give breath taking ski pulling performance. Clearing the 17 is better for that.

If you don't feel like switching props for heavy duty skiing, the 15 X 17 will work OK, as long as you watch the rpm and don't over speed the motor.

An alternative would be to purchase a good SS 15-15.5 X 17 prop. The additional cupping in the SS prop will cause it to act like it has 18-19 inches of pitch at speed, acting to keep the rpm in check, while still providing good acceleration for skiing.

We need to know what WOT rpm you are turning with the current 15 X 17 prop to be more accurate.
