So is the Clymer. Covers too many engines and leaves out information on the engine you are working on. I found it had info on everything except the one I was working on. Wished I had a Mercury 60 factory manual.

seloc is used to keep your knees clean when changing lower unit oil. clymer is to catch the oil drips.

Re: Best Repair Manual

I have all three manuals (Clymer, Seloc, and Mercury) for my motor. I am often glad that I have all three. As a rookie, I found that checking all three manuals before tackling a new repair or maintenance task gives me a better understanding of what to do and more confidence that I understand it well. The Clymer and Seloc manuals sometimes describe a step differently (better) than the Merc manual and the additional pics in the Clymer and Seloc manuals are often helpful. The Clymer and Seloc manuals also have some good general information sections on tools, troubleshooting, tips, etc. that the novice can appreciate.

If you need to pick only one manual, the Merc is of course the best choice. However, spending a little more to have all three can be a good move.
