I’ve read few threads about the newer points not being made correctly and issues setting the timing with them, including OMC’s sets. I ran into this with one outboard I have. The new replacement OMC points I installed were incorrect and I ran into issues getting the points to open correctly. I swapped them with an older OMC set I had and problem solved. Same part number . My question is if anyone has found a better replacement set that are a good fit? Maybe Sierra ? Otherwise I will continue to clean old sets I set aside .
Thanks

Agreed!! EMP are perfect quality/price wise for those old motors. Take your time to perfectly gap the points especially on an old engine generation like yours, the kind of (timing cam lobe) needs to be EXACTLY top dead position before you gap the points , and look for plating imperfections on the points heads I've ran into issues before caused by bad plating, if it's the case just sand em until they're perfectly flat!!
Cheers 🥂

Scott- I also googled. Look a bit closer at the two parts distributors that claim to have them in stock. One wants over 50$ to ship a set of points to California (ground shipping). The other wants 25$. I called EMP and they are currently out of stock and will only ship to a distributor who can get a PO, not sell to the public. I emailed the first part distributor that comes up when googled (Palmer Power) who claims to have them in stock. They advised they are waiting for availability from the distributor (EMP). Well EMP told me they are out of stock.
Also, still waiting for the two online parts places to get back to me about why shipping is so expensive and if they actually have the part on hand, or order from EMP once an order is placed.

Luckily I have a parts distributor near me I plan to call today. Hopefully they have them in stock locally, otherwise I know my local shop had a few old stock OMC points available. Couldn’t find many other options to purchase,
