I built ashed out of glass crates when I worked in that industry. Lots of 12 foot2x12, 8s,etc. Pull nails and cut as needed.

Cut them off. I would never use old rusted hardware on something like that. Plus, my time is worth more that spending time trying to get rusted bolts apart. This is why I own a plasma cutter.

There used to be a vehicle assembly plant in Nelson , all the vehicles came TKD in a galvanised sheet steel crate . There are probly thousands of sheds and fences made out of the sheet , one part of the motorway there was about a mile where there were only a few fences that were not made out of the sheet , the inch angle frame work was dead handy too , not galv tho :)

I donno - every truss I've ever seen uses contiguous lengths of wood, not shorter pieces scabbed together with used nails.
Today's trusses yes, but back in early days that is how they came into use.
Didn't really think it needed explaining, but guess I was wrong.

Gee, most of the time the 5/16" ubolts on my trailers just broke, when I tried to remove them. They were galvanized and looked rust free, but they broke, just the same.

The larger ubolts usually came undone w/o breaking.

make sure you have a source for replacements, just in case.

It's amazing what some people can do with old pallets. The wife loves pallet wood too. Even she draws the line at reusing nails. I pray I'm never so hard up I can't buy a box of new nails and a contiguous length of varying sizes of wood at least 8' long. Making roof trusses from nailing pieces of pallet runners together for a long span with used nails doesn't sound like a great idea.
I totally reuse nails. And lumber. The sea walls/piers around here use wood that makes the pressure treated stuff at the big boxes look environmentally friendly, and some serious SS nails. Both are incredibly expensive and difficult for the average joe to obtain...

Likewise.
And I've recovered wood from 18th century structures - never seen anything but contiguous length truss lumber.

The 50/50 ATF and Acetone works wonders and is dirt chep to make up. What ever you decide on start hitting now so its good and ready when you are.
