I went with the WalMart exercise mats ($14). Weldwood contact cement worked great to apply the mat to the rough sanded paint interior of the box. I have about four hours operating with it and I am pleased with the results. If it fails in the future I will let you know.

No, I just brushed the contact cement on to the mat (tested it first) and the interior panels. I have checked several times for any loosening or deterioration. So far so good. The sound deadening qualities are better than expected. It really needs to go through a whole season to be sure. Because the boat is a restoration I have to be real careful about expenditures, as you probably know. If you buy this mat at WalMart it is the one with a lightly scalloped side. There is a $10 and a $14, this is the 14.
