Best trailerable boat under 25'?

I just may be in the market for a new boat soon. I need an optioned up weekender style of boat like a Sundancer on a trailer. I need a newer, low hour, safe and sturdy unit (got a 3 year old son that loves boating) that'll sleep 4 and have a head with a sink and stove top. Is the Searay the best all around boat (including resale value)? Is Searay just paying for the name? A different brand? What about power? I'd like to hear your opinions. My budget will be about $40k... since I won't be paying $300 a month moorage.<br />Thanks

How much beer would it take to get to California? Lots I bet!<br /><br />I don't really like the 2452... it's a hardtop and the cockpit is too small. Bayliner's Ciera line is nice. I was thinking along the lines of these... (with full canvas package)<br /><br />Searay 24 DA Sundancer<br />

Be sure to look at the Regal Boats. Namely the Commodore 2460, 2465, 256, 258, 2660 models. These boats are great boats loaded with creature comforts. <br /><br />Also something with Volvo Pinta and The DP drive system. You wont be sorry. Unless you skip over them.

Both but mainly ocean use. There's so many ports within a day's travel that are just fabulous places with lotsa' good people. Over the years I've gotten to know many folks at the oceanfront marinas and pubs. I go to work every day so I can feed my kid and go boating.

Regal 258... nice boat! Good call RP. I'm good with Volvo or Merc drives... I may even like the Mercs. better because I've worked on them but I wouldn't let that scare me away from a Volvo. This old dog can still learn stuff <br />The only nightmare stories I know are with old OMC stuff. They'd break for no reason.<br />Thanks<br />

Let's say... the best combination of all the above. I'll be trailering it but not very far... usually to the nearest ramp which is only about 3 1/2 miles of coutry road away. I'm not sure what you mean by trailer cruiser but it needs to sleep 4 which means a mid cabin to get the kids in overnight. It has to have creature comforts. You know what I mean right?<br />Thanks

Pretty well every boat out this way has a closed cooling system and if it didn't, I'd put one on it. It's not even an option really, I need heat on the boat and I prefer the buss heater set-up (that works off the engine coolant). It's cold out in the ocean!

Probably not what you had in mind, but Regal makes a cuddy that sleeps two kids and two adults. It's longer than the boats you've listed, but lighter and has a very big cockpit. With camper canvas, she's be an enourmous, but easily trailerable weekender. Take a look at the 2650. BTW, It's also fast and cheap on gas...<br /><br />

Searay and Bayliner are owned by the same company. You'll get the same engine and drive Mecruiser, you won't have the choice of Volvo). Many other components will be the same also. With the Searay you'll get upgraded carpet, countertops, cabinets, etc. You have to decide if these features are worth the premium that a Searay goes for.<br /><br />My advice is for you and your wife to attend one or more of the major boat shows and see these boats side by side. As mentioned, there are several other manufacturers with this type of boat. Glastron and Stingray are two more. Deck and cabin layout may have an influence on your choice also. While you're in the boat, think about how you would use it. Where would people sleep, where would the extra "junk" go, how easy is it to set up for dining or sleeping, etc.

Exactly. Is there any difference in the hull construction? They're about the same weight. I have some more homework to do but I think if I'm on a trailer... which is step backwards for me... I'm going to want something fancy. I don't mind paying a premium so long as it's worth it... but by the same token, money is an issue so I'll be looking at 5 year old boats or older that have already depreciated that first bit. Good points. Thanks for the input.

Those Regals are definately beautiful boats... love 'em... but the cabin isn't big enough for me. I'll be downsizing from this so I need as much cabin room as I can get or it'll be like sitting in a closet during the overnight adventures.<br />
