Some 2 strokes Merc's leftovers are still being sold as rebadged Yam engines like the 15-25 which are cable throttle as opposed to rod throttle on Tohatsus. Assume once left overs are gone will sell the new rebadged Tohatsus. You have Evinrude/Johnson, Merc/Mariner, Tohatsu/Nissan to name some. Dual name, double profit...

The difference on both is visually simple. If the throttle arm end has a rod going inside engine as seen next to right side with tiller facing you, it's a rebadged Tohatsu 25-30, The Yam older model has cable driven throttle system seen when pivoting throtttle arm to fullest upright resting position The good issue if being a rebadged Tohatsu is that you can service and even buy spare parts at any Tohatsu dealer, bit cheaper that Merc brand.

Check upper posted pictures as a refference.

Start a topic about your motor and whether it can be 'converted' for the best help

This topic has been inactive for 2yrs, well past the 90day window to be considered inactive
