Use S1 sealing Epoxy first and then use West System Epoxy.

You could exchange S1 for CEPES if you like. CEPES is more expensive and S1 works great.

The West System is a gluing/sheathing Epoxy not a penetrating epoxy.
By using both you seal all the fibres of teh wood , not just the outside.

Make sure you paint or varnish after. Epoxy will weaken in direct sunlight.

There you go, your second opinion and hes probably right. I figure mine lasts for 7-10 years. my warranty is for 90days. I figure ive done the customer a good job and saved$$

Hey Rod, or anybody else, have you used the evercoat marine poly? I am thinking of using it if I can get the right price on it. Just wanted some feedback on quality and ease of use. Thanks

I have used the CPES and it is good product, however smelly and you have to buy their clean up solvent... Dry time is long but it goes on good and you can paint it after one application...

I have to agree with JohnDoe.CPES Clear Penetrating epoxy sealer is a superior product for preventing rot in wood.I have used it recently to restore a transom and it works great. ;)

Re: Best Water Sealant For Plywood?

thin epoxy? thinned out, or just a skim coat?

Ive spent 25 years painting houses (with my dads painting business, in between being running a mobile repair service complete with a wrecker, and a stint driving 18 wheelers that almost killed me!), I should know about these things, lol, but houses dont get dunked in salt water!

benjamin moore makes a good sealer, and really, so it Thompsons ... but I highly doubt if it is anywhere near as good as epoxy, we use to use epoxy for industrial applications, and the stuff is flat amazing (dad always liked Sherwin Williams, I wasnt impressed with most of their stuff)

18 bucks a gallon, thats a bit more like it!!!

how much is the tube of catalyst? 50 bucks? LOL

Both CPES and S1 are "SEALING" epoxies and have the consistency of water. S1 has a potlife of 48 HOURS!

After sealed with a sealing epoxy, 2-3 coats of regular "gluing" epoxy.
