best way to block boat

I will be having my 23' cc hauled and blocked and would like to store it in my driveway. The driveway is brand new, asphalt just put down last week. How should I have boat blocked to prevent damage to new driveway. Jack stands or blocks? Will 6 stands distrubute weight better than 4? Will using 3/4" plywood under stands and blocks help. Thanks for the advice.

I don't think that you will really hurt your driveway whatever way you decide. But the more blocks, the more the weight is distributed over an area. If you would put blocks or stands on plywood, the weight of the boat will be distributed over the length of the plywood instead of one block width.

Use as many jack stands as you need, then put some plywood under them to keep the jack stands from digging in to the fresh asphalt. I would use pressure treated ply to try to keep it from rotting away over the winter.

I wouldn't use plywood. It'll warp & bow in the elements. If you use cinderblocks, they won't be very strong on their sides and if you have them upright the ribs may dig in. Rather, I'd buy a dry pressure treated 2x10 and cut it into 2ft sections. Place a section under whatever you use to support the boat. (cinderblocks set upright probably the sturdiest)

Don't forget that the jackstands won't be supporting the weight. They're just used there to keep it from tipping over. The weight should be supporten on the keel. That's the strongest portion of the boat hull.

For additional measures, tie the jackstandes together (rope/chain/etc) to keep them from moving apart. This pic shows the proper way to block a boat.
