I don't know anything about your engine. Most guys change the oil by pumping it out the dipstick tube.
Does the dipstick have a hose Like fitting near the end of it?

I like the Tempo pump personally.

Since you have an inline engine, there is probably room to slide a pan underneath the drain plug on the oil pan. That is the best way. However, if you can't do that, then go to your local marina and by a marine engine oil pump and get it out of the dipstick tube. That is the only way on a lot engines unless you install an oil drain hose onto the oil drain plug hole that you can stick out the transom drain hole when you change oil. Hope this helps.

been there, done it too. i used to double bag thick trash bags and lay them in the sump and let the oil run in them. had to be sure oil ran into the inner bag and had to be careful pulling the bags out so as not to get a tear. a catch pan would go in, but no way to get it out after it was full of oil. i now have an oil pan plug fitting with a hose and valve attached to drain the oil out the transom.

I don't have a sump plug on my engine. Didn't bother putting one in when I repaired the rust holes in the pan. Just pull the oil out the dipstick tube with a vaccuum pump.

My 2001 Merc 140 came with a 4' long hose that is attached to the oil pan. The hose has a lock nut on the loose end that fits thru the transom hull plug. It makes for a easy job.
I can't see why a older engine can't be retrofitted with the same.

Hed

Ditto with Hedjug... I put the same fitting on my 165 and it worked great! I see no reason why you couldn't do the same to yours. I think with the parts it cost me about $10 to do.
