Planning on putting an older Johnson 40hp engine up for sale. Need the experience of some of you who have previously shipped one. Need to know best methodology and ballpark price.

A big wooden crate, strapped to a pallet, shipped via ABF freight lines. $150 to $170 should get it anywhere in the lower US from Ohio.

I shipped a 59 Johnson fat fifty V4 from Texas to Oregon through ABF freight. The buyer paid about $165 I think. I got a pallet from them, wired it down and then built a crate around it. Whole deal cost me about 3 hours of my time, but it was easy to ship that way.

If you go to a dealer, they will give you an outboard pallet. You will be able to bolt the motor directly to it. That is probably the easiest way.
