Best way to make fuel tanks fit multiple engines

I have a 1970 aluminum crest liner with a 1978 mercury 500 and a 1975 Johnson 15 hp and I’m looking for the best way to be able to use the fuel tanks on either engine. The mercury 500 has a aluminum twist lock connector at the engine and the plastic tank and the Johnson has a black plastic fitting with 2 holes ( one for a fuel nipple and one for a guide stud )and a lock tab just on the engine and the hose is threaded to the metal tank.. also have a new spare plastic tank and a extra Johnson style fitting for the tank. Just wanting to be able to use the tanks for both engines and wondering which way to go

Equip all tanks with the disconnect style of your choice.
Put the matching connector on the fuel hose.
Have one hose for each engine.

Just make a short adaptor for the fuel.line.

Merc fittings on both tanks and hoses, plus a short length of hose with a Merc fitting on one end and the normal Johnson connector on the other end for an adapter.

I would do one line per engine. Multiple discos is gonna be multiple failure points down the road and more likeley if you're swaping back and forth at that same connection over and over eh.

hydraulic quick disconnects would work perfect. Would be overkill for sure. But the fittings are around $30- $50 each

I have something similar. I am assuming you are trying to not have to switch fuel lhoses on the water? Mine are a 50hp Johnson and a 9.9 Merc kicker. What I did was add a Fuel filter/Water Separator. They have 2 lines in and two lines out. One line to the fuel tank and one line from the separator to each motor with the proper fittings. Pump bulbs between separator and motors. Plug left over inlet on the separator. Used Evinrude fittings on the tank/hose to tank. This works good for me as a splitter and the fuel filter is an added bonus.

I use a small adapter for my stuff - 6-inches of hose connecting the male and female connectors needed to fit which tank to which motor. I'd use the primary motor as your primary fitting and use the other motor with the cheater fitting.

I simply put Chrysler fittings on each tank, and hose ends. I like the round fittings, seem to hold up well. The motor ends are mercury on one and Evinrude on the other. Easy peasy.
