Apparently there trucks are easy to open w/ a slimjim(or a tool like it), mine has been broken into maybe 3-4 times, nothing taken - (go figure they were too lazy to steal tools) just riled thru glove box and console. Just irritates me. Whats the best, inexpensive deterrent?
P.S. Looks like I'll have to replace the outside door handle too - I beleive just from wear, it's cracked and a bit loose.

Park it in a garage:D.

I have a 2000 Silverado, and if you have the same key locks I do there won't be much you can do about it. My locks are so badly worn you can open them with a Popsicle stick. Yeah I could replace them but the truck has over 200K on it and I am not going to spend money that isn't for a mechanical repair.

Do you have an exterior light that keeps the parking space well lit?
My neighbor does and his battery was stolen less than a week after he replaced it. I guess the well lit area made it easier for the thief to see what he was doing:facepalm:.

No garage til I move into new house, good lighting but space underneath some apartments, our security can't be there 24x7, prob. some punk kids or druggies, lookin for easy cash.Mine only has 116K on it.but I did put a small security camera in it the other day(not hooked up - yet) maybe that will help :>)

I just don't leave anything of value to anyone else in there and leave her unlocked.
That way I'm not replacing windows or door handles.

Yes, that is my line of thinking too. When I lived in NY there was a roll of dimes in my console. I would rather have someone steal $5 in dimes then destroy my dash for a cheap radio.

or

You could get a doberman to leave in the car!!

I bought a Dummy security camera with a battery operated LED flashing light. It comes from company that sells the actual cases with no expensive internal camera. It was $35. I istalled it, and it freaks people out...

Now you want to know the truth, Harbor Freight sells a tool that will break into any car in under a min. I have used then works great they were made for lock out service so all the locks do is keep honest people honest.

Even in Texas, booby-trapping is not legal. Montana may be different.....

They should design and build an alarm that sounds exactly like a 12gauge Mossberg pump chambering a round. It's a very distinct sound that most people are familiar with. I'd buy one.

best way to prevent a break-in without a garage is keep your windows open, doors unlocked, and nothing in the glove box. put a few quarters in the cup holders. it wont prevent unauthorized entry, just the breaking part of it.

Why not a wireless alarm. HF has them for less than 20 bucks. You place the sensor in your car and when the door is opened or anyone reaches in the sensor will activate the alarm beside your bed. Then you can sneak up on the intruder and "take care of your business" in the way that suits you best....

With those 99 Chevy's you can essentially give the door handle a nice hard yank and it will rip right off, the whole handle assembly. Unfortunately I know this because a drunk friend managed to do just that.

Never keep valuables in there, and leave a post-it on your steering wheel when you leave that says, Smile you're on camera.

Even that won't deter some thieves.

As for the door, it's pretty easy to get it cracked with a putty knife as you mentioned. I locked myself out, threw a stiff putty knife in there and a coat hanger and voila! Easiest car to unlock that I've owned.
