i have searched but "transom" is in about 95% of the posts.
little history..... im on my 2nd build, first one: was halfway done for me when i bought it. as in deck was removed, transom was replaced, stringers were removed, i just had to put it back together.

this boat has a budget of..... just kidding i have no set budget. time frame is hopefully march, if it dont happen then it doesnt happen. i have a good local supplier for glass and resins and such. if any of you guys live in south Florida behind bass pro off anglers ave, there is a company that manufactures their own stuff..:D just roll down your window and when the smell of resin is really strong look around.

any one have any transom removal tools and/or tips??

before massively investigating

Set the blade in your circular saw just short of the wood thickness, cut the transom into manageable chunks then use a wonder bar to start chiseling and levering the squares off. Take your time and it will all come out ok.

An elec chainsaw will work too, you will hear the blade when it starts to contact the glass, makes a racket compared to wood.
The chainsaw gets the corner bits of wood out real good.

I suspect you've lost quite a bit of strength by chopping those corner boxes out, so it might require more attention when glassing the new transom back, I would consider using epoxy and high quality cl$oth.

I have to agree with jonesg, those boxes may have been structural. After installing the new transom, do your best to build back the strength with either gussets/knees or similar boxes.

And it would be a nice touch to build in a splashwell too. They come in real handy in a following sea that gets a bit agressive.

Nice work so far, your doing a great job!

Keep the photos coming.

Re: Best way to remove transom

chainsaw would have been a great idea... basically the wood was so rotted out a pry bar and hammer worked pretty well. ive got about 30hrs into this boat total so im moving along nicely. stringers removed tonight and plugged away at the transom a little bit more.

now for the boxes in the corners. they are gone and never coming back. well not the way they were. the biggest problem i have with this boat is no storage and no livewell. those boxes had foam in them. i fish alot of saltwater and like live bait. so heres the ideas:

motor extender with flotation built it. where the boxes were make it go all the way across with a livewell in the middle and dry/battery boxes on each side.will also serve as an aft casting deck. gas tank was originally portable, so below deck fuel cell under the center console. im going for functionality. 90% i will be solo other 10% my wife and 5month old boy.(till he can stand on his own)then just us.

I wonder how much weight the baitwell is gonna add to the stern.

Re: Best way to remove transom

figure you cubic feet of the well, gallon equals 1.33 cubic feet, gallon weights +- 7 lbs. then the weight of construction material.

i have about 15 draw-ups of what i might do. either way its getting a live well. the other options are; live well where the helm seat is; livewell in front of console; or stand alone portable cooler livewell; but ive got to get the deck down first to see what/where i can give up space, since it is only a 16footer

TD, Did you slip a decimal point?
You are talking USG, but even so, nooooo way a USG is 1.33 cu feet...maybe 0.133 cu ft.
An IG is about 6 gallons per Cu Ft. or 0.16 cu ft, USG are smaller.

Take it from a baker, a gallon weighs 8 lbs.
I wouldn't put a baitwell at the stern.
