Best way to store a 22 foot pontoon

Looking for suggestions for storing a 21 foot pontoon boat during the winter and summer months? A large garage would be ideal but I don't have room for one on my lot. This would be for a summer vacation home and not a place where I would be living year around. Storage on the lake goes for 100 bucks a month. It has been suggested to me that I store it in a commons area, but I would be concerned about vandalism or theft. Just curious to know what other people have done.

There is a guy in the neighborhood stores his 18 - 20 ft pontoon in his drive way between the sidewalk and the garage door.probably about 25 ft.
Puts his van slightly diagonal between the toon and the curb.Last winters home made cover didn't make it through a very long and cold winter.
He must be in violation for partially blocking the side walk at the least.
Off the beaton track but some some light traffic.
I guess my point is with a trailer you might be able to put it anywhere that doesn't irritate anyone.

Not sure I understand. You say you don't have room for a garage on your lot, does this mean it's not big enough to store your boat as well?

I'd be concerned about vandalism and theft as well. A call to the local police department might give a clue regarding the history of the place you're considering.

My situation is similar to yours. Place is not used in the winter. Need to know the area your summer place is located, if you have a trailer or not, waterfront or not, winter accessibility.......?

I, like some of the others, need a bit more info. So then at my lake place, we simply store our boats on our boat lifts in the water next to our dock in the spring, summer and early fall. You mention a common area...are you in some sort of shared property situation? Winter means you either pay for inside or outside shrink wrapped storage if you don't have your own garage as you mentioned. When you say 'vacation home' I'm assuming you are on the waterfront. Many folks simply go and buy a lot somewhere close to their vacation place and build a pole barn in my neck of the woods because even a big stick built garage isn't big enough to fit all of your boats, pontoons, off road vehicles and waverunners.

Can't agree more!

If you want to keep your pontoon looking new than inside storage or a great home cover is your best option. I traded in my 2003 Chaparral....always covered and for most of the time it was under a temp garage setup, with very little direct sun. Even with all the protection my boat was showing it's age. I just purchased a 2003 Playcraft pontoon, which has always been stored inside a warehouse or garage. The pontoon is in near new condition. Until I can build a complete covered storage for my new toy, I am paying for inside storage....
