I got the floor ripped out of my boat this morning after getting up at 4:00 am. When it is a work day my wife has to drag me out of bed. not to much of a floor there and all the stringers look new. the plywood was rotten under neath the floor in which the factory never fiberglassed the underneath. I found the foam that I was looking for and it is in the seat boxes that are sealed and up from the floor and also under the two dashes that support the windshield and at the back of the boat where the motor is and all the foam is above water level or air tight in the boxes where water can't reach it. the foam is dry and won't have to be replaced and believe me i'm glad. this is my second time to restore a boat and the first one was a nightmare.If you click on my home page you can see my first boat which is now up for sale but i will never come close getting what I put into it.I'm showing better pics of my restoration this go around.

Hi,<br />The first boat you restored (that you are selling now as I understand it) seems to be a very fine boat now. I guess You are going to finance this larger boat (Maxum?) restoration by selling the first boat.<br />Anyway, this larger boat seems an easier project. A new floor should be a rather quick fix for You since You already now all the problems involved in this type of work. The tank: is it stainless steel? Is it embedded in foam? Do You plan to build a floor-hatch so You can inspect the gas tank? Personally I'm not that fond of a gas tank that is embedded in foam. Actually I have a rather new boat (2003) that the gas tank (stainless steel) is embeeded in foam. And do You know what happened this summer in rough sea? The tank came loose. So now it is at the dealer for warranty repair.

Hello BO <br />My tank is all allumium. no stainless on my tank and it is very light. It is fiberglassed in across each side of the top and yes i'm going to make a lift up floor to inspect the tank.<br />Ron

Ron:<br />I read your post twice, and you are saying there was no foam in the center of this boat?<br />One cubic foot of foam is supposed to float app. 180 pounds.<br />You said it had a 305 Chevy in it, I don't see enough foam to support the engine and outdrive.<br />Or the boat,gas, passengers, equipment for any length of time. And I emphasize any length of time.

CC Lancer<br />the foam is not in the floor. it is in the two seat boxes which are filled with foam above the floor. these boxes are made into the sides of the boat and are sealed. there are approx. 4 cubic feet of foam in each box and there are two more under the dash and the drivers side that the windshield sits on. they look to hold another 4 cubic feet of foam on each side of the boat and there are foam at the back of the boat at the engine which looks to be another 4 cubic feet of foam so in all thats 24 cubic feet of foam spread equally thoughout the boat. the foam is dry and a good idea to seal it like they did. no foam in the middle of the floor which there is a ski locker that you just lift the top up. I plan storing my fishing rods there. I'm thinking of making a removable floor to put back over my gas tank in the floor so i can inspect it no and then.

It would be a very god idea to have a removable section to get to the tank. Good luck.
