BF75 Idle problem

I recently obtained an 85 BF 75 honda motor. Has worked great in the past, however recently I can not start the engine unless the throttle is in fast idle. If the throttle is released back to the start or to shift the motor dies. This is slightly frustrating as I cannot pull my boat away as i cannot get into forward or reverse without the motor dying on me from the trailer. We tried spraying some carburetor cleaner into the intake valve on the carburetor but this made no difference. Please help.

I don't understand how you could spray carb cleaner into the intake of the carb since the airbox is next to impossible to remove without removing the complete manifold. Do you have a filter onboard? My guess is going to be connected with the word ethanol. Hopefully someone else will have a better answer.

Re: BF75 Idle problem

Btidwell68 - IMHO the most likely cause of your problem is that the low speed jet on one or more of your carburetors is clogged. These are very small passages and it will most likely require disassembly to properly clean them. Just my 2?. Good luck.
