BF75S Honda 7.5 HP won't idle suddenly

Last year my new to me Honda 7.5 HP 4 stroke motor ran perfectly at all ranges of speed including idling in gear as well as in neutral. Yesterday was my first time using this motor this year and it runs great at higher rpm's but as soon as I slow it down to shift into gear it stalls. Could this be dirt in the carburator, like maybe corn sludge from using 10% ethanol gasoline?

I do this all the time with my other small engines, but I never thought to do so with my outboard motors, primarily because I would want to do this at the dock before taking the boat out of the water. I'll just need to work on making it habit doing so. Thanks

I pulled the carb and cleaned it thoroughly and also switched to rec gas, no more ethanol. She's purring like a kitten again.

If your not keen on letting motor idle at the dock to clear fuel from the carb ...there should be a float bowl drain screw you could open to drain carb . Its actually not bad practice to move that screw every so often because they are a pita if the seize up. If your lucky there will be a small hose connected to the drain to clear fuel away and you can catch this drained fuel so as to see any water of dirt that might be in there .

Yeah, mine doesn't have the connected hose. I can still use this option if the dock is busy thus being impractical to run the carb empty at the dock. Good suggestion, thanks.

You could drain it at home later....doesnt have to be done straight away
