Just when I thoght that forgetting to put the plug in would be the wost thing that I could do. I proved my self wrong.
Went on a short boating trip today, did some tubing and cruising. Once I got back to the ramp I got in a hurry. There where quite a few people loading and unloading. And I was agravated by the people that jsut dont have any common sense at all. Like getting right up to the ramp and then getting their boat ready for the lake: straps, fishing poles, plug, fill the cooler... you get my drift. Well, I was in such a rush that I backed my trailer up drove the boat onto the trailer in about record time. But as I was pulling out of the ramp I looked and noticed that I had left my motor all the way down and ..... oh I am so ashamed.... the motor was still running  . YES running! I was so glad that no one knows me there, i've only been ther a few times.
Looks like I made it away with jsut minor damage to the propeller, but wow. I think this one is definately a new one to me.

Wow, thats the first time I have heard that done. Good thing only minor damge. How was the prop damaged ? Did you damage the skeg as well ? You might want to replace the water pump impeller now if the motor was running for any amount of time. Most likely have damaged it by running out of the water.

I screw something up every time I get rushed. Moral of the story: always take your time.

Re: Big Dummy!!

I went back out on the lake yesterday and everything ran like a champ.I used a pair of pliers to bend out the blades, I will look at getting another one this week. There was no damage to the skeg. I must say, I feel extremely lucky that there was no damage except for the blade. And yes, this time I took my time. It seems that everytime I get in a rush at the ramp something like that happens. So from now I do solemly swear to...

I was glad that I hadn't been the only one that has done that.

I've left the motor down but not running. This could easily happen. The kill switch strap is a excelent Idea!

1975 Mark Twain, no kill switch. One day, when I get some boat money, I will buy a boat new enough to have a kill switch. Actually I have been drooling over the classified adds here in Dallas. It seems that there a ton of good deals. If only I had some money.
Ahh, story of my life.
