The following will help with your journey!

I am not sure what happened to the Big Lure Little Lures site. I have not been able to access it in a while, nor have I been able to get into email contact with them. Not sure, it was a great site for the H and T series of motors.

I should have answered your original question sorry.

NO, you do not need to remove the powerhead. Google can be helpful, but you may find a lot of incorrect info as well. Some guys get confused with the 5.5hp CDs where you do have to remove the powerhead, the 5hp TN you do not.

Drain the oil in the gearcase before continuing or you WILL make a mess, lol.

Simply disconnect the neutral clutch cable at the bottom end of the neutral shift lever. Then remove the S-curved copper cable tube. Remove the four bolts holding the gearcase on and drop the gearcase down and away. If it is stuck use a little persistence. Pull the 1/4" plate from the upper housing. The water pump will come with it. If it does not, again, a little persistence.

The impellers can be bought from vintage outboard, OR you can make your own from an impeller for a newer 5.5hp motor.
