PW said:(edit) I will agree with you to this extent, JB. It should have been a non-story.

Had the VP (and the admin) got out front, and in a timely fashion, and said what happened, and how, expressed a little remorse or something, it probably would have been a non-story.

But the way it was/is being handled, is indicative of how this administration has an arrogant disdain for the press and the American people, and somehow seem to think that their actions are automatically above reproach and scrutiny.

This administration, especially the VP, seem to think he can operate in complete secrecy, and the public has no right to know what the heck they are doing. That is not how a democracy is supposed to work.
Yeah!..and I want to know if hes havin any affairs and what not..I mean I can read everything about all the stars and Hollywood, so why not the pres and VP. Darnit! it just aint right I tell ya.....THERE OUGHT TO BE A LAW AGAINST THESE PEOPLE HAVIN A LIFE WITHOUT US KNOWING ABOUT IT. :D

PW- I think you could debate a fencepost.

And furthermore,...I want everyone hear on Iboats to come clean about mistakes you have made past and present. I'm spending alot of time here,.. getting advice, offering it, or generally reading about your lives and I have a right to know if you really screw up once in awhile. If any one of you have hurt someone or broke the law and got away with it, well....I think you owe it to everyone here to come clean!.. :D

I disagree, the media DOES run the country, or at least many of our attitudes toward subjects.

We Americans have been taught to form our opinions by the "sound bite". It is proven human nature that people form opinions based on what they heard/saw first. The old adage that "first impressions are lasting ones" is so true. Trouble is, most (Dockside Chatters excluded) do not seek out facts after the barrage of one liners.

Plus, it's also proven that a lie told enough becomes truth, in so many minds.

I see very little "news" in newscasts. Most are pre-formed opinion or at least a definite "slant".

I drove 55 in a 40 this morning. And I drove for 40 days without my proof of insurance card inside the vehicle. And one time I accidently kept a slot bass. And another time I accidently kept 2 overs when the limit was one. And I crossed the state line into Oklahoma one time on lake Texoma when the other guy in the boat only had a Texas license. That was intentional.

There will be a press conference tomorrow at 2:00PM Calcutta time to reveal and explain all of JB's mistakes and accidents since October of 1935.

If the press representatives don't speak Swahili that is their problem.

(250)

QC, if the BB hit its intended target that was no mistake. A lapse in judgment yes a mistake or accident not so much.

Now if you were hunting your little sister and your little brother just happened into your line of fire, well that would have been news. ;) :D

Re: Biggest non-story of 2006

It's no more of a story than a lot of the things the Clinton administration was called on. And the way it's being handled is very Clintonest.
The story is only interesting to me here on iboats because that hypocracy is evident, again.

To me the story slowly evolved into a political situaion because the VP's own actions gave the media fodder.
A visit from the Sherrif the next day is out of the norm. A warning ticket is out of the norm.
The story is worthy for the reasons that should be evident to you. Accountability, responsibility and the fact that no one should be above the law.
Oh, and by the way, he did shoot someone. Even if by accident it usually make the news.

FTR, I'm not the only one that thinks this was handled terribly.

Former Reagan press secretary Fitzwater
" W press sec Fleicher
Conservative Columnist Robert Novak

Among lots of others on the right agree that it is/was not being handled well. Not that that gives it any more credibility, but only that it is not necessarily a "partisan" opinion.

And re debating, only a person on the right can decide they won a debate by announcing they won...the rest of us have to rely on the quality of our arguments.
