Bilge area cleaning

I searched a little on this site, for liquid solutions to clean the bilge area. I don't want to damage the bilge pump.

I had considered a bilge area cleaning agent, BUT, I live in a small area, and the only thing that we have that carries boating supplies, is our famous "Wally World", and they didn't have anything for that.

So, I was wondering what to use/mix up on my own to clean this area up??

1) I have some Simple Green

Any kitchen supplies that my wife might have that would work ??

This is going back many years ago but people used to use dish soap such as dawn and 2-3 gallons of water (disconnect the auto bilge pump)...... go boating and let is slosh around.... then pump or drain it out.

I've had good sucess with lanolin waterless shop hand cleaner..
It cuts grease without water, you do have to get in there and do some scrubbing, not much though..

"IF" you use dish soap, can it be pumped out through the bilge or will it hurt the pump ??

My most recent outboard power boat had a lot of grease/sunk in the bilge area. I used a product called "greased lightning blast - orange power4ed - super strength auto/shop degreaser". It did a great job of busting loose all that garbage. I sprayed it on, waited a few minutes, hit it with the hose nozzle, and it came a lot cleaner. Repeat as needed. Whether you can run it through the bilge pump is unknown.
