Re: Bilge Area Water Level

I had water come in by way of live wells in the bow of my boat. Mice had chewed the hose that draws lake water in to my live well. This hose ran from the stern all the way up to the bow where my live well is located. I opened the rod locker and it looked like a sprinkler was running in there. Duct tape for the ride home, hoses replaced in the drive way.

We have a small live well on our boat, right between the passenger and drivers seats........but we have never used it.

Some live wells are gravity fed, no pump for fill. If the drain plug is not installed it will fill with water. Is your well gravity fed? If so, Is the plug in place?

There is a drain plug and we've never found any water in the well.

I will use a small Mag flashlight I now have and an inspection mirror to look also.
Now you're cooking.
Start with a perfectly dry boat and look for where it's coming from.
Feeling around with your hands is good for places you can't see, keep drying your hands between feels.

You can also use a digital camera with a flash sometimes to reach in and take inside the hull pics of things you can't see. Did on mine and saw alot of stuff I didn't even know was there. Good luck with your search.

Fill the bilge as suggested earlier and add some green food coloring to it. Any color will do, if you see that color on your driveway you should be able to trace the leak back. My on, off, auto bilge pump switch has a red light that will light up if the pump comes on. That tells me to check the bilge. I also have 2000 gph bilge pump on a manual switch as a back up. Good luck.
