I am rebuilding my 1984 Wellcraft Elite 200. I am glassing the stringers and am planning out the bilge channel which is what ruined the boat initially. This boat had a 1" pvc pipe that drained the ski locker and another compartment. The pvc broke and didn't drain the water.
I am debating whether to have an "open" bilge channel that some have recommended on this site with bigger holes in the cross braces (2"?
) which would allow water and air to flow from the bilge to the ski locker in the front. I would epoxy paint the area to water proof the stringers etc...
I have an aluminum belly tank in good shape and it seems to me though that the best approach would be to run the pipe and completely seal everything so that water wouldn't get past the rear bilge area. I was going to skip the second compartment and just run the pipe to the ski locker. I feel like if done properly it would be a better solution to have all that area completely dry.
What are your thoughts/opinions?
