bilge pump hose

Hello,

I recently bought a 1995 2150 Striper. While doing engine maintenance/repairs I noticed that the outlet hose for the bilge pump is just the thin-walled plastic type. Looks newer so the previous owner must have replaced it.

This does not seem right to me. What type of hose is usually used?
thanks

That's commonly what is used and it works fine. Heavier grade hose is available, but if what you have is new I'd just leave it. I'm assuming you have 1-1/8th ID hose on that size boat and that can be hard to find locally except as that thin flexible bilge hose. Heavy grade bilge hose can be found online at BassPro for sure. Don't know if iboats sells it or not.

Edit-- Just looked at Basspro.com and they don't sell it online, but they do have it in the stores if you have one close to you.

OK thanks.
Think I will leave it in for now and change it out in a year or two.

Agricultural supply stores, Tractor Supply, Farm & Fleet, etc have milking parlor flexible hoses in bulk and it is clear. Just a suggestion for a source when you do replace the original.

The "corrugated" hose SEVERELY hampers bilge pump efficiency.

Smooth wall (inside) hose gets your bilge pump closer to its rated capacity.

I hear the ratings on bilge pumps are bogus as they assume zero lift. Just about everyone has a good 20 inches or so and that knocks something like a third off the rating.

I.E., 1000 gph is really well under 700 gph or so by the time you lift the water out of the bilge and halfway up the hull to the output...True?

If you could find the West Marine test data mentioned here it would be nice, but that was done in 1999. However the the report below will give a good "rule of thumb"
