Those two wires got any color to them? A bilge can only run two directions submerge it with the hose on it,connect the wires to + and -on a batt. if it runs and pumps water out the hose then the connections are correct, If its not pumping reverse the wires,12V systems will run either way depending how the wires are connected. The seperate unit is a switch, once you have the bilge impeller running to pump water out the switch wires into the + wire, creating a off/on switch water level controled.

Re: Bilge Pump Infor. Needed

Thanks for replying .....bilge has a brown & black wires coming from the unit...looks like at one time it was connected to the leverly/ black wire.. don't know what you call it...its the part the I'm assuming triggers it to go on when the water rises? ...and maybe the brown is the hottt wire? What do u suggest ..tap a switch and a fuse protector to the battery? Or should I just run it to the battery no switch....don't know what to do... Any information greatly appreciated

Re: Bilge Pump Infor. Needed

My boat has 2 bilge pumps, one on a manual switch at the dash and one like your describing.

The bilge pump with the float lever on it, is hard wired to the battery. Reason is, if your moored and taking on water,
IE; rain or waves...etc, the float will rise and turn the pump on.

Improperly installed, the float might be up all the time pumping constantly, draining the battery. Take your time and install level or as the directions dictate.

Brown wire should be the 12v+
Black wire should be the ground 12v-
Float switch activates the bilge pump when the water level rises
All should be wired to a 3 way switch so you can activate the pump manually or let it sit in active standby mode.
The float/pump should be wired direct to the battery so the pump cannot be turned off or shut down when the boat is unattended
